What is even better than a spinoff racing game? A spinoff racing game that all of its proceeds benefit those in need. Forever.

Minit is a 2018 minimalist cross-console release that takes place in sixty-second increments. At the end of a minute, the game ends. Players progress as they uncover items during this limitation — items that are then available for use during subsequent attempts. The two-to-three hour adventure ends once the player unlocks 27 achievements, thus lifting the curse imposed on our duck-billed hero. In pixilated monochromatic detail, Minit is the collaborative effort of Kitty Calis, Jan Willem Nijman, Jukio Kallio, Dominik Johann, and published by Devolver.

To give fans an additional entry into the Minit universe, the team has developed a spin-off, Minit Fun Racer. Using similar time loop constraints found in Minit, the racing title begins players with a ten-second chance to side-scroll through an obstacle course of items, secrets, and goals During each brief play through, however, players must collect coins as they whizz through the stage, then use these coins to purchase upgrades to their vehicle. These enhancements, along with a myriad of goals to achieve, are what progresses the familiar duck-billed protagonist in Minit Fun Racer to the end — as quirky interactions with objects occur, players uncover new path results in a varied gameplay experience, all to get to the beach. Mundane tasks like delivering a pizza or even the absurdity of receiving a turbo boost for ramming into a row of trash cans makes for a little title full of big charm.

Not only are fans of the original indie-darling Minit given a new challenge, they are directly overcoming real-life challenges through purchasing Minit Fun Racer. “We wanted to make a full game, not just something you would buy just for charity,” says Calis. “The bigger it gets, the more we can help, and in the end we want people to have a good time and to do good, too.” The first charity the team will donate 100% of Minit Fun Racer‘s proceeds to is Doctors Without Borders. Devolver will rotate subsequent donations to other deserving enterprises as the game continues to sell.

Minit Fun Racer is currently available for download on Steam in increments of $2.99, $9.99, and $19.99. Although all price tiers include the same game, players have the option to donate what they can for a pretty priceless cause — certainly worth a “minit” of your time.
