Proprietor of physical media Limited Run Games will be revealing over 25 new games that will be getting the boxed treatment next month.

In a video produced by Mega64, Limited Run Games will be revealing their surprise physical game announcements on Monday, June 14 at 4 PM Eastern. The picture they’ve presented spoofs the E3 logo as the event revolves around a similar time frame. There is no word on how long the presentation will be.

During last year’s showcase, Limited Run Games announced a slew of physical game partnerships with the likes of LucasFilm’s Star Wars: Episode 1: Racer, Team Meat’s Super Meat Boy Forever, Konami’s Castlevania Anniversary Collection, Squanch Games’ Trover Saves The Universe, and WayForward’s Shantae, among many others. It was an impressive showing, so if 2021 can at least match or even top that, we’ll be in for a great time.

Right now, Limited Run Games currently publishes titles for the PS4 and Switch, but this could certainly expand to the likes of the PS5 in the near future. It also has re-released titles that barely seen the light of day, like Mega Man: The Wily Wars on the SEGA Genesis. At the time of writing, you can order a physical cartridge like the old days for $69.99. Imagine what else Limited Run Games could publish from our long history of gaming. Perhaps, the company might transition to the Super Nintendo, and could bring out Star Fox 2 or maybe even Mother 3? A Nintendo fan could only dream, but we’ll admit that’s very unlikely.

Limited Run Games began in 2015 as its parent company Mighty Rabbit Studios struggled to stay in business. On a whim, Josh Fairhurst and his best friend Douglas Bogart published their latest release at the time Breach & Clear into 1,500 physical copies on the PlayStation Vita. They sold out quickly after industry veteran Randy Greenback shared the news of its release on Twitter.

Fairhurst said to My Life in Gaming, “It exploded; collectors immediately honed in on it.” The rest is history, as both publishers and gamers saw the value in collecting physical media. Unlike digital, there is a guarantee that you can access it in a few decades’ time. The company has received its fair amount of criticism for making games scarce on purpose, but it has reiterated that the IP owners of each game could go somewhere else after Limited Run’s participation.

Since that fateful day in 2015, Limited Run Games has published over 300 games and counting. They’ve also published some neat collector’s editions. The K.O. Edition of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, for example, comes with a pop-up scene that has Sex Bob Omb on a stage. What makes it cool is that it plays music and has working lights. The game also comes with a full-color instruction booklet, a book of a bygone era.
