Where the Heart Leads is the narrative adventure from Texas-based Armature Studio, the team behind the Xbox One exclusive ReCore and Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. It’s an extremely text-heavy game that has players navigating through different decades of the life of Whit Anderson. For many reviewers, myself included, a major problem popped up with the size of the text in the game. Even someone like myself with fairly good vision had a hard time reading some of the smaller text boxes, and it’s a fairly major accessibility issue.

The good news is that Armature Studio has been incredibly responsive about the problem, and after concerns raised by reviewers it’s released a patch that addresses the text size. It makes quite the difference, and with the patch, players can go into the options menu and use a slider to adjust the size of both the text and the text box.

Players will want to make sure to check for an update on their respective platform and install Patch 1.03, which should have applied automatically if updates are set to do so. Below you can see a comparison of two different screenshots, with an original screenshot on the top and the updated text size screenshot on the bottom.

As you can see the change makes quite the difference, and it’s great to see a studio so actively address an accessibility issue. For those unfamiliar with Where the Heart Leads, the game follows a family man named Whit Anderson after he falls into a strange sinkhole that opened on his farm. Players go through the decades of Whit’s life, making decisions that can change his past, present, and future. The game is entirely narrative-focused, and the different decisions players make can drastically alter the way the story plays out as well as the multitude of endings.

Where the Heart Leads released on July 12 for PS4 and is playable on PS5, via backward compatibility. Be sure to check out our review of the game, and let us know what you think on Discord!

Settled for being a writer, considering Gundam Pilot isn’t a real occupation.
