Developer Morteshka and publisher HypeTrain Digital have been hyping up their new dark RPG Black Book for quite some time, and today you can finally get your hands on it on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Set in the world of Slavic folklore, Black Book tells the eerie story of a young sorceress named Vasilisa who is on a quest to revive her loved one. The only way she can achieve her goal is by finding the titular Black Book, and to obtain it, she’ll need to fight through a hoard of evil mythological monsters in a haunting and mysterious 19th century. She can do so by way of a card-based battle system that allows for deck-building and the recruitment of dark forces to do your bidding.
Vasilisa can meet a bevy of unique companions through the game’s 7 chapters, and you’re be able to enjoy that dialogue with full English voiceover and dialogue that exceeds 150k words. That’s quite a lot of additional story content in a card-based game, but since Black Book promises well over 20 hours worth of gameplay, it’s good to know there should be plenty of additional plot content to keep you invested.
If you’re not entirely sold yet, you have a few options. You can always check back later this week for our full review, or you can take a look at Black Book‘s free prologue, which has been available on Xbox and Steam for a while now and tells the story of how Vasilisa became a witch. If you’re already all in, however, you can go ahead and pick the game up for only $24.99 on all major platforms, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X thanks to backwards compatibility.
