Thunderful and Headup are bringing their spooky action-platformer Pumpkin Jack to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X on October 27.
Mere days before Halloween, players can dive into Pumpkin Jack and take up the role of the titular character on his quest to vanquish good in favor of emboldening evil. The game is set across six lengthy levels where there’s no shortage of 3D platforming to tackle, new gameplay mechanics, and enemies to fight. Cleverly designed boss battles round out the end of each stage and grant Jack fresh weapons that he can use in following battles, all of which can be swapped between on the fly.
As if this retro-inspired platformer didn’t already stand out, the new-gen version of Pumpkin Jack will come with a couple of improvements to build upon that already solid experience. A new Performance mode will offer 60fps with a targeted 4K resolution, while a Quality mode guarantees 4K at 30fps and provides higher quality effects like ray-tracing and improved shadows. There’s no confirmation of whether it will take advantage of the PS5’s DualSense controller features, however.
Either way, owners of Pumpkin Jack on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can upgrade to the new-gen versions free of charge when it releases later this month. And if you’re one of the few people who might be looking to play it on both old and new hardware, purchasing the new-gen version first also unlocks the PS4 and Xbox One versions, so you have plenty of options. You can also buy the original release on Nintendo Switch or PC right now.
