During Sunday’s Square Enix Presents the company announced something we’ve all wanted for years โ a remastered collection of the first six Final Fantasy titles. Known collectively as Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, each of the beloved NES and SNES games will actually release individually with a fresh coat of paint.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that these games have seen re-releases and upgrades. Indeed, many of them have seen launches on Steam and mobile devices with relatively poor reception, largely thanks to save system issues, game-breaking bugs, and art and UI changes that most fans simply didn’t appreciate.
After so many previous ports going over poorly, this staggering collection of remasters will hopefully right the wrongs and grant fans the versions of the games they’ve always dreamed of playing. Here’s a real bummer, though โ like the previous re-releases, the Final Fantasy Pixel Collection will launch exclusively on Steam, iOS, and Android, completely leaving out console gamers altogether.
It’s an especially odd choice to not even release these updated titles on the Nintendo Switch given how the games were originally released on Nintendo platforms all those years ago, but long-time Final Fantasy players will nevertheless have plenty of content to play through when the Final Fantasy Pixel Collection launches. There’s no release date yet, but the teaser promises the games are coming soon, so keep your eyes peeled.
