Greylock Studio will release their fast-paced and brutal FPS title Severed Steel this Friday, September 17, with console versions set to launch sometime later this year.
The team has gone on record stating that Severed Steel was inspired by other stylish first-person titles like Mirror’s Edge, F.E.A.R. and Black, and it certainly shows in its frenetic gameplay. It’s very much a stunt-based shooter, giving you the freedom to pull off slick moves like wall runs, slides, dives, and flips as you blast away your enemies. You can even use the bullet-time mechanic to slow things down so you can line up the sickest shots and feel like the ultimate badass.
As main character Steel, you’ll quickly navigate destructible environments and try to destroy everyone who stands in your way. However, because your guns can’t be reloaded in this title, you’ll be asked to treat each encounter like a puzzle of sorts, picking your shots smartly and then picking up your enemies’ weapons so that you can keep things going. There’s also a level editor included so that you can design your own diabolical gauntlets for others to overcome.
Severed Steel is shaping up to be the kind of extraordinarily exciting first-person chaos that gets your blood pumping. You won’t want to miss it later this week when it goes live on Steam, Epic Game Store, and other PC storefronts. If you’re not a PC gamer, though, keep your eyes peeled for a console release date announcement in the near future.
