Rock Square Thunder’s poetic puzzle-platformer The Lightbringer will be headed to Nintendo Switch and Steam on October 7.

The Lightbringer tells the story of world overcome by a corruption known as “the tar”, which has spread across all civilization and nearly eradicated it. A young girl sets off to become The Lightbringer so that she can harness the light and save the world, but she eventually falls to corruption and leaves her young brother as the only hope. You’ll take control of the boy, who shares some of his sister’s powers, and sets off to finish what she started in a tale told entirely in verse – which should be quite a treat for poetry fans.

The Lightbringer is made up of bite-sized levels filled with collectibles to find, puzzles to solve, and platforming challenges to overcome. With only a boomerang at your disposal, you’ll be tasked with fending off attacks from the corruption, too, as you make your way through each area searching for light motes that will let you cleanse the monolith at the end of the stage. It’s worth noting, however, that the developers refer to the combat as “light”, so it’s likely to be one of the game’s less prominent features.

Either way, there’s certainly a blend of different gameplay styles in The Lightbringer that should have a wide appeal to fans of various genres. While you’re waiting for this quirky indie title to launch next month, you can actually check out a demo on both Switch and Steam right now to see what all the fuss is about.

Billy will always claim he didn't intentionally get the platinum trophy in Snoopy's Grand Adventure, but he's lying.
