PlayStation Now is home to a lot of retro content, so it only makes sense that Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, and Grand Theft Auto III joins the service this month. Indie titles John Wick Hex and Spitlings are also joining the lineup. From exploring the beautiful islands of Spira to causing chaos and destruction in Liberty City, here’s what to expect.
All four games will be available to stream or download on to your PlayStation system and PC (stream only) on December 7. Christmas has come early.
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 are available in their HD remastered forms on the service. It comes with improved character models, textures, and backgrounds that will bring the 2001 title to the modern age. In addition, there is a remastered soundtrack that can be switched out for the original version at any time. If you ever played the PS3 or Vita versions of the game, you can transfer your save over as well. The HD remaster also comes with a 30-minute audio drama, which takes place after the events of the two games. Final Fantasy X is an essential RPG to play. It has an enthralling love story and amazing worldbuilding that will keep you playing more of its engaging turn-based combat. Final Fantasy X-2 is not as praised as the original, but it does change things up with its dress-based combat system that constantly shifts your abilities in battle.
Grand theft auto III: The Definitive Edition
The game that revolutionized open-world gameplay Grand Theft Auto III has recently returned to modern systems with its HD remaster. While the game has been layered with complaints, the game still looks much better than its original counterpart in some aspects. The lighting is incredible and with a new increased draw distance, it brings Liberty City to life. The models also have improved textures across the board, and the environments have been remastered. This city of crime has never looked better, provided that you overlook certain details. But it’s not just the graphics that have been changed, This version of GTA III comes with controls inspired by Grand Theft Auto 5 and the ability to add waypoints to the map. It’s just a shame that there are multiple framerate issues and bugs with this release. Rockstar thankfully fixed some of them via updates.
John Wick Hex
Love strategy games mixed with the high-intensity of the John Wick franchise? This might be the game for you. Developed by the team that brought us Volume, Subsurface Circular, and The Solitaire Conspiracy, John Wick Hex has you figuring out the best way to terminate your enemies and choose the best route in real time rather than in turns. The game also has a striking art style that looks ripped from a graphic novel. Reviews of this game on Steam are mostly positive with the most recent reviews being very positive. If you’re a PlayStation Now subscriber, you should definitely give it a go.
Spitlings
This indie title has a blend of platforming and party gameplay. As the Spitlings, you are popping bubbles to save your hometown. The rain that is plummeting down to each level is ensnaring the Spitlings, and it is up to you to free them. If you’re playing with friends, you can work together to take down the liquid threat, but if one of you dies, you’ll have to restart all over again. There’s a lot of play time that can be attributed to this little known game with over 100 levels and 100 Spitlings to play as. In addition to all that content, a story mode complements the simple, but likely fun gameplay. It’s also just very satisfying to say and type Spitlings.
