Developer DONTNOD has announced that their narrative-based adventure title Tell Me Why will available for free throughout all of June in celebrating of Pride Month. The game can be downloaded at no charge for PC and all Xbox consoles starting today.

For the uninitiated, Tell Me Why is an episodic adventure game similar to DONTNOD’s other major franchise Life Is Strange. Throughout its three episodes, players take control of twins Alyson and Tyler on a trip back to their childhood home following the death of their mother – pushing the two back together after a decade of having been apart.

Tell Me Why received widespread praise at release for its handling of LGBTQ+ issues, especially in its portrayal of Tyler, a trans man who is forced to cope and push back against bigotry upon his return to the twins’ Alaskan hometown. The team at DONTNOD worked closely alongside multiple transgender and queer people in the world of gaming on their quest for guidance and expanded understanding of how best to depict their diverse cast of characters.

In a statement put out by DONTNOD, the team expressed their gratitude for the stories they’ve received from fans who felt the game helped them along in their own life story, saying:

Since Tell Me Why’s release late last summer, the team at DONTNOD and Xbox Game Studios Publishing have been humbled by and deeply grateful for the many gamers – especially trans and queer gamers – who have found understanding and hope in our game. We’ve received heartfelt messages from players all over the world about how Tyler’s homecoming as a trans man and Alyson’s struggle with trauma have impacted them, encouraged them, or made them feel a little less alone, especially amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and pervasive transphobic rhetoric in places like the United States and the United Kingdom.

Tell Me Why will remain free from today until June 30, 2021.
