Wills Creative is seeking $12,000 in a new Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming strategy title Tactic Legends.

Inspired by classic games like Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre, Tactic Legends is described as a free-to-play turn-based strategy game aimed at player-versus-player encounters. In it, players will be able to assemble their own team, complete quests to gather new loot, and engage in quick-time events during battles that will hopefully give each throwdown a unique spin. The game will take place in a rotatable 3D space while maintaining a 2D visual style, keeping it even further in line with beloved titles from a bygone era.

The Kickstarter campaign for Tactic Legends launched on January 1 and will run through the end of the month. As with most campaigns, this one is offering a variety of backing tiers that can earn supporters some extra rewards. Meanwhile, additional stretch goals promise some solid upgrades should the campaign raise enough money. Most notably, players will gain a Steam release at $20,000, while $25,000 will allow the developers to build a guild/clan system and implement a co-op feature that would let players team up with friends against AI opponents. Lastly, in-game map and campaign builder tools will be able to be developed if the campaign raises $30,000 and $40,000, respectively.

Best of all, developer Cameron Wills promises that the game will never have pay-to-win mechanics or ads, saying:

hate pay-to-win games, and I’m sure you do too. A player who spends real world money in-game will not have a power edge over another player. Premium items are primarily cosmetic and time-savers (battle pass exp boost, etc). Tactic Legends is designed so that players who never spend a dime have the opportunity to unlock and acquire everything the game has to offer.

Tactic Legends is shaping up to be an intriguing take on a classic formula. If you’re interested in seeing what the team is building, you’ll have until January 30 to check out the Kickstarter campaign where you can donate should you feel so inclined.

Billy will always claim he didn't intentionally get the platinum trophy in Snoopy's Grand Adventure, but he's lying.
