Nintendo has once again brought out the company’s spotlight for another selection of irresistible indie titles. And while Hollow Knight fans were no doubt bugged by the absence of ‘Silksong’, an expansion that feels like it’s been in the works for ages, there was still something for everyone.
24 minutes of indie goodness
Nearly twenty games were shown in total and a few of them are already available to play on the Nintendo eShop, either in demo form or the full release. Some of the titles are ports of games already available on other platforms but there are a few that are coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch as well. We’ve got the full list below with each corresponding trailer, including release date details, eShop links, and anything else you’ll need to start playing more indies on your Nintendo Switch.
Sea of Stars
Sea of Stars has music from iconic composer Yasunori Mitsuda and features an art style inspired by older RPGs, but it couldn’t be more groundbreaking. This retro-inspired experience has the themes and trappings of classic RPGs, including two heroes, magic, and a big battle against evil, but it should feel far different than anything else you’ve played.
Character movement is nothing like you’d expect. Sea of Stars has character movement that’s much more akin to platformers. Players can “swim, climb, vault, jump off or hoist up ledges,” all while harnessing the power of Eclipse Magic, which is the only thing that can stop The Fleshmancer and their evil monsters.
Sea of Stars is expected to release in Holiday 2022.
Alisha: The Oblivion of the Twin Goddesses
Alisha: The Oblivion of the Twin Goddesses will take you on an adventure, alone or with a friend, as you solve puzzles and explore. This fantasy adventure is built around the Nintendo Switch’s unique capabilities, which should offer new and exciting ways to go off on digital journeys.
Alisha: The Oblivion of the Twin Goddesses is expected to release in Spring 2022, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
Loco motive
Loco Motive is a point-and-click mystery adventure filled with murder and retro aesthetics. Players will control three different characters as they try to piece together the necessary clues to clear their name. That’s right. The three protagtoists are also the murder suspects, which means this should be a pretty wild ride when it releases next year.
Loco Motive is expected to release in Summer 2022.
Afterlove EP
Afterlove EP is a rhythm adventure that’s inspired by Japanese manga but it’s hard to lock this tune into a single genre. Afterlove EP is also a visual novel with a narrative dealing with grief, love, and picking up the sheet music and trying again. Players will also be treated to the bright and colorful views of Indonesia, where Afterlove’s story plays out.
Afterlove EP is expected to release in Summer 2022.
Dungeon Munchies
Dungeon Munchies is a rich dish unlike anything you’ve played before. You’re trapped in an underground cavern with monsters and no way out, at least not yet. Together with the help of Simmer, an undead necro-chef, players can cook up magic dishes to unlock new abilities and powers. First you’ll have to slash up the right monsters though. Things are going to get messy too, so be sure to bring an apron.
Dungeon Munchies is available now on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
Figment 2: Creed Valley
Nightmares are everywhere and it’s up to you to stop them in Figment 2: Creed Valley, a music-infused journey that takes place inside the human mind. The game’s original soundtrack will change and adapt based on what’s happening around you, often providing clues as to what caused the nightmares to form. Figment 2 will also features musical boss battles, which is all I needed to hear. Music games are good, ’nuff said.
Figment 2: Creed Valley is expected to release in February 2022.
Let’s Play Oink Games
Oink Games has brought the company’s popular tabletop games to the Nintendo Switch, allowing players to play four different games with a friend, either locally or online. Deep Sea Adventure, A fake artist goes to NY, Startups, and Moon Adventure are all included with the release now, with more content coming from Oink Games at a later date.

Endling – Extinction is Forever
Endling – Extinction is Forever may not be for everyone, but its message surely is. Endling follows a family of foxes as they try to survive in a world ravaged by humanity. Survival of the mother fox’s three babies isn’t guaranteed, which is why you’ll need to teach them new abilities to stay ahead of danger.
Endling – Extinction is Forever is expected to release in February 2022.
OlliOlli World
Meet a cast of cool characters and skate across a colorful world in OlliOlli World, the latest title in the indie-hit skateboarding series. OlliOlli World features multiple paths in a long and winding adventure where challenges and exploration await.
OlliOlli World is expected to release on February 8, 2022.
River City Girls 2
The River City Girls are back for another beat ’em brawlin’ adventure — and this time you can play with a friend locally or online. The long-awaited sequel brings new abilities, locations, combos, accessories, and more, making it a must-play title for all fans of the series.
River City Girls 2 is expected to release in Summer 2022.
Chicory: A Colorful Tale
The games shown are Parkasaurus, Don’t Starve Together, Baby Storm, Grime, Gerda: A Flame in Winter, Timelie, and Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery. (Note: Chicory: A Colorful Tale was also shown during the montage but with it being available right now and having its own Nintendo Switch trailer, it felt appropriate to give it more space in our writeup).
Omori
Omori is making its debut on Nintendo Switch, allowing more people to experience this unique psychological horror game that deals with some mature themes, including depression and anxiety. It’s already available on PC if you’re interested in researching the title’s content before its Switch release next summer.
And that’s all the games covered during the Nintendo Indie World showcase! There were some big announcements missing that many were hoping for, including Hollow Knight’s ‘Silksong’ DLC, but the showcase certainly had some big surprises and something for everybody. And it’s not like there’s a shortage of great indie games while we wait for more Nintendo showcases.
In addition to all abundance of indie titles available on Nintendo Switch, there’s also a rich selection of essential indie titles on Xbox Game Pass and Epic Games Store, which increasingly seems to be the place to find indies. And don’t forget about itch.io, a PC storefront that’s constantly overflowing with good indie flavors.
